Hyundai Glass Replacement Requirements: UPDATE

The role of the windshield is a lot more complex than simply allowing a view of the road ahead. It is considered a structural part of the vehicle as it contributes to the strength of the roof and A-pillars. The windshield helps to manage collision energy and has become an integral part of several advanced safety systems.

It is commonly asked, "What is required when replacing a windshield?" With this question in mind, we will be presenting a series of articles that highlight some of the requirements from the various OEMs. As always, it is important to read through each vehicle-specific procedure to ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.

Let’s see what Hyundai has to say for the 2016-2026 model years.

  • Hyundai does not specify a particular brand of glass primers and adhesives.
  • It is important to stay within the same product line for primer and adhesive.
  • Be sure to refer to the urethane manufacturer’s directions for curing time specifications, and do not use the adhesive after its expiration date.

Hyundai has a Non-OEM Glass position statement that states:

  • "After windshield replacement, it is important to calibrate all electronic systems using the Hyundai diagnostic software and hardware per procedures listed in the Hyundai Shop Manual." (systems listed in position statement)
  • "These systems use a camera mounted on the windshield behind the rearview mirror."
  • "To ensure proper HUD operation, the correct windshield must be installed for each Hyundai vehicle."

Hyundai states that: "nstallation of a non-original windshield may interfere with the camera function and cause abnormal operation in these systems."

Vehicle-specific stationary glass procedures can be found in the Shop area under: Body (Interior/Exterior) ➤ Windshield Glass or Body (Interior/Exterior/Electrical) ➤ Exterior Green House ➤ Windshield Glass
