One of the many functions of the Repairability Technical Support (RTS) team is to assist the collision repair industry with understanding repair procedures. The team often receives questions such as, "Does this part need to be removed?" or "What is the preferred attachment method?" Let’s take a closer look at reading Kia repair procedures.
Kia repair procedures have two sections labeled Body Repair and Repair Procedures. Within Body Repair, the spot weld locations and amounts are displayed using numbers and symbols with a key at the top. In Repair Procedures, Kia shows the step-by-step process for completing the procedure and specifies what other panels need to be removed.
Some Kia procedures group multiple panels into one procedure. For example, the 2026 Kia Sorento has the trunk floor panel in the same procedure as the rear rail. In this example, if only the trunk floor is damaged, you do not need to replace the rear rail if it is not damaged. The technician can remove and replace only the trunk floor. Following the repair procedure until the target repair panel has been removed, you can skip to the installation portion of the repair procedure for the target repair panel.
Consider the panel layering before beginning the repair. Carefully reading and understanding the procedure, including additional procedures, is vital to ensuring a complete, safe, and quality repair.
