Locating OEM-Approved ADAS Tools: General Motors

When researching calibration procedures for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), you may notice that many of the procedures require the use of specific tools. Some tools may be everyday items like string, tape, levels, paper, etc. However, many of them are OEM-specific tools or scan tools. Often identifying and locating where to purchase these specific tools can be difficult.

The RTS team is researching how to find these tools to make it easier for technicians performing these procedures. As we research the location of these special tools, we are compiling the information in a series of OEM-specific articles. Let’s see where you can find General Motors (GM) approved tools.

Tools can be found on the GM Tools and Equipment website. You can either search by part number or by part name at the top right corner of the page. Typically, most tools needed for a specific operation are listed in vehicle-specific procedures.

GM does not require specific scan tools. Instead, they require the use of specific software like GDS2, Tech2Win, and Tech2Diagnostics along with a Multiple Diagnostic Interface (MDI, MDI2) to connect to a computer. The software required will depend on what vehicle you are working on and is typically identified in repair procedures.

Always follow OEM procedures when calibrating ADAS. Make sure to check procedures for the required tools to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
