Toyota/Lexus: CRIB# 196 - GMAW/MIG Welding Specifications

Toyota/Lexus provides their welding requirements in one central location in each vehicle-specific collision repair manual. This includes information on the type of welding wire and shielding gas to be used. These requirements should always be followed. However, in addition, Toyota/Lexus has released collision Repair Information Bulletin (CRIB) #196 that updates the types of welding wire that can be used.

Toyota/Lexus CRIB #196 GMAW/MIG Welding Specifications specifies that along with the listed ER70S-3, that AWS A5.18 ER70S-6 is now approved for mild steel, high-strength steel (HSS), and ultra-high-strength steel (UHSS). The CRIB states, “This publication change applies to all Toyota and Lexus Vehicles and model years.” It also states that the bulletin will serve as an official update for all previous collision repair manuals.

Always refer to Toyota/Lexus service information for the most up-to-date CRIB information.
