Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2018 GMC Acadia

One of the top technical inquiries received at Ask I-CAR is “Is there a sectioning or partial replacement procedure available?” To help answer this question, RTS has an OEM Partial Part Replacement Search available. Here you will find information on if these procedures are available on a specific vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at the 2018 GMC Acadia.

The full OEM Partial Part Replacement Search page for the 2018 GMC Acadia can be found on the I-CAR website. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself. However, GMC has paid subscription website with collision repair information.

There is a partial part replacement at factory seams on the front lower rail. There is also a procedure(s) available for partial part at factory seams for the front upper rail. The rear rail has a single location for both sectioning, and partial part replacement at factory seams.

Multiple sectioning locations are allowable on the outer uniside. Per the 2018 GMC Acadia Body Repair Manual: "Note: Squeeze Type Resistance Spot Welds equivalent to the factory spot welds are recommended. If access to use Squeeze Type Resistance Spot Welds is not possible, MIG/MAG 8 mm (5/16 in) plug welds may be used, to replace those specific welds."

There are OEM sectioning procedure(s) available in the body repair manual for the rear body panel. A single partial part replacement at factory seams and a sectioning location is available for the trunk floor. No sectioning is available for the uniside reinforcement and inner uniside.
