Mercedes-Benz Position Statement: Pre- and Post-Repair System Scanning

Mercedes-Benz is known for their use of technology in their vehicles. Many of their models are equipped with some of the latest and greatest bells and whistles. So, what does this mean for collision repair technicians when it comes to repairing these vehicles. Let’s see what Mercedes-Benz has to say.

The Mercedes-Benz lists various technologies used, along with saying how they can be damaged in a collision without the driver being aware that a problem exists.

Mercedes-Benz highly recommends pre-repair scans and says that post-repair scanning is necessary on vehicle models that are 1996 or newer. They give some examples of when a scan is required. Per thier Diagnostic Repairs Following A Collision position statement:

  • "Vehicle collisions, regardless of the appearance of damage"
  • "Windshield replacement for vehicles with driver-assist sensors (including rain/light sensors) located in the windshield"
  • "Removal and/or replacement of exterior components, bumpers, SRS sensors, park assist sensors, driver-assist system sensors and cameras, wiring harnesses, vehicle control units, seats, or interior trim panels"

Mercedes-Benz also recommends that: "all repairs are performed by a certified technician using only Genuine Mercedes-Benz Parts, mechanical components, and electrical components, as well as all safety devices such as airbags and seat belts."
