Ford F-150 Adaptive Cruise Control Recall

Ford has issued a recall on the 2015 Ford F-150 adaptive cruise control (ACC) system. Let's take a look at how this may affect your customers and prevent a potential comeback.

This recall is due to the F-150 approaching a large reflective truck and falsely detecting an object in the vehicle’s path. When this occurs, the F-150 may apply the brakes and sound the collision warning alarm. When this happens, it has the potential to create a collision and will certainly create a very surprised driver!

How could this be a potential comeback? We have all been there; a customer brings a vehicle back for something that they never noticed before the accident. For example, a customer brings back a vehicle that has had a radiator replaced because they see the temperature gauge go up and down during normal operation. The problem with the ACC issue is that in order to recreate it, the scenario has to be a perfect storm in order for it to occur. So unless you know about the recall, there is no way to find the true problem.

As a best practic, it is always a good idea to check for safety recalls for vehicles being repaired. A great source to find this information is on the NHTSA website. There is also a link to the recalls on the NHTSA website on the RTS OEM Information page. The Ford ACC recall is not available on the NHTSA website, but the Ford software update is not expected to be available until October 19th.
