Repairer Driven News: Matte Clearcoat Challenges

Repairer Driven News (RDN) has released an article highlighting the challenges of matte and semi-gloss clearcoat.

In this article RDN provides an overview of the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) Parts And Material Committee panel discussion. This panel included paint maker representatives and Kye Yeung from European Motor Car Works.

Presenters discuss considerations shops should take into account including:

  • Booth air flow and temperature
  • Booth loading and space utilization
  • Vehicle preparation
  • Paint mixing on the scale

A major aspect of success on semi-gloss or matte clearcoat is matching the gloss level. Gloss level can be influenced by many factors such as airflow, temperature, hardener selection, gun selection, flash time and bake time.

Always follow paint maker recommendations when performing refinishing procedures.
