Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: 2021 Nissan Rogue

While many have noticed that advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are showing up on vehicles, there still is confusion on what is required of these systems after a collision occurs. The Ask I-CAR team frequently gets questions in regard to calibration of ADAS. Many of these questions can be answered simply by searching the OEM Calibration Requirements Search. However, there are some questions that may need more details than the calibration search provides. Let’s take a look at the 2021 Nissan Rogue ADAS.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue may be equipped with the following ADAS:

  • 360 Camera View (Intelligent Around View Monitor)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (Intelligent Cruise Control)
  • Collision Warning (Intelligent Forward Collision Warning)
  • Collision Braking (Automatic Emergency Braking)
  • Blind Spot Detection (Blind Spot Warning)
  • Lane Departure Warning (Lane Departure Warning)
  • Lane Keep Assist 1 (Intelligent Lane Intervention)
  • Lane Keep Assist 2 (Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention)
  • Rear View (Rear View Monitor)
  • Park Assist (Sonar System)
  • Rear Cross Traffic (Rear Cross Traffic Alert)
  • Adaptive Lighting (High Beam Assist)
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (Traffic Sign Recognition)

With all these systems comes multiple inputs (cameras and sensors).

The front bumper cover contains:

  • six sonar sensors
  • a radar sensor
  • a camera

The service manual does not specify calibration or initialization for the sonar sensors, however calibration is required for the radar sensor and the camera after certain events.

The windshield contains a camera near the rearview mirror (Front Camera Unit). This camera requires calibration after certain events, and also requires programming if the camera is replaced with a new one.

The side mirrors on this vehicle contain cameras (Side Camera). These cameras are part of the 360 camera view and require static calibration after certain events listed in the service manual.

The deck lid/liftgate also contains a camera. This camera can either be used for the 360 camera view or just rear view, depending on what systems the vehicle is equipped with. If it is for the 360 camera view, calibration is required. If it is only for rear view, no calibration or initialization is required.

Lastly, is the rear bumper cover. The rear bumper cover has six sonar sensors and two radar sensors. The service manual does not specify calibration or initialization for the sonar sensors, however, calibration is required for the radar sensors. Programming is also required for the radar sensors if replaced.
