Calibration Research Tips: Subaru Steering Responsive Headlight System

While searching for information on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on an OEM repair information site, you may come across unique calibration procedures or events. These events can vary by year and model, even within a particular make. As the RTS team has been researching these systems, we have been identifying these atypical circumstances. In order to help you better understand them, we are putting together a series of articles that help with the repair and calibration of ADAS. Let’s look at the Subaru Steering Responsive Headlight (SRH) system.

Subaru SRH is an adaptive lighting system available on many Subaru models. It allows the headlamp beam to move left or right in accordance with the steering angle. This allows for better illumination of the road when navigating a curve or turn.

Subaru typically provides detailed information on the description and operation of the system in the owner’s manual and the New Car Information manual, but has limited information on this system in the service manual. So, if one is looking for the operation specifics, you will need to research in these manuals.

In order to locate Subaru SRH information in the service manual you must look under different systems as there is not typically a section devoted just to Subaru SRH. On the Subaru pay website, the Subaru SRH information is typically found in the Diagnostics tab in either the Auto Headlight Beam Leveler system or the Headlight/Foglight system areas of the manual. Some of the information located in these areas includes:

  • Component location
  • Function check
  • Active test
  • DTCs
  • Diagnostics

It is important to always follow OEM procedures for repairs and calibration. Finding this information quickly and efficiently contributes to a complete, safe, and quality repair.
