FCA/Stellantis Restraints Wiring: UPDATE

The question is often asked, "Can supplemental restraints system wiring be repaired?" The answer is: it depends on the vehicle maker. Let's take a look at the FCA/Stellantis position on this subject.

Per FCA/Stellantis Service Information ➤ Restraints ➤ Warnings:

“...never attempt to repair the electrically conductive circuits or wiring components related to the SRS for which there is no Mopar® wiring repair kit. It is important to use ONLY the recommended splicing kit and procedure…”

The splicing procedure may be found in vehicle-specific service manuals under: Service Information ➤ Restraints ➤ Standard Procedures ➤ Supplemental Restraints System Wiring Repairs.

  • The wiring splice repair procedure is approved for harness side repairs only.
  • The procedure specifies crimping the wires with a splice band, soldering the connection, and sealing the splice with sealant-lined shrink tubing (Part number 04778570 or equivalent).
  • The crimp and solder ensure a strong mechanical bond that will always pass a pull test while also maintaining the conductivity and current carrying capacity of the circuit.
  • The adhesive sealant and heat shrink tubing ensures the splice repair will perform as well or better than the original wire and be safe from potential corrosion or short circuits.
