The California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Recognizes I-CAR

In October 2015, Automotive Repair and Smog Check News published their fall newsletter with an article titled "Piecing Together Proper Sectioning Repairs." This newsletter announces the fact that I-CAR best practices are now recognized as industry-accepted specifications, in the absence of OEM repair procedures, by the state of California.

According to the article, "California Code of Regulations section 3365 (a) specifies that repair procedures including, but not limited to, the sectioning of component parts, shall be performed in accordance with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) service specifications or nationally distributed and periodically updated service specifications, such as those offered by the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair, that are generally accepted by the auto body repair industry. OEM service specifications are specifically identified within this standard and should be heavily weighted when determining what type of repair to perform. Adherence to OEM procedures may also safeguard repair professionals from improper liability and help to ensure the safety of the consumer."

The California Bureau of Automotive Repair vision statement states, "Bureau of Automotive Repair will be the recognized leader in protecting consumers in the automotive repair marketplace and promoting continuous improvement in the motor vehicle emissions reduction program."
