OEM Linking Pin: Ford/Lincoln - Disassembly Of A Service Part

As part of the I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) OEM linking pin activity, we are helping to connect the collision repair industry to the vehicle makers. We‘ve had technical inquiries that asked for clarification on if service parts can be disassembled for installation. We reached out to Ford/Lincoln for clarification.

While searching through Ford/Lincoln Workshop manuals, you may notice that there are many procedures for replacing single components by sectioning or partially replacing them at factory seams. But what about components that are only replaced as an assembly? Can we just disassemble the assembly in order to replace one component at factory seams?

We reached out to our contact at Ford for clarification. Per our contact at Ford/Lincoln: "Service parts should be replaced as supplied unless a procedure exists."
