Calibration Research Tips: Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE Outline

While searching for information on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on an OEM repair information site, you may come across unique calibration procedures or events. These events can vary by year and model, even within a particular make. As the RTS team has been researching these systems, we have been identifying these atypical circumstances. In order to help you better understand them, we are putting together a series of articles that help with the repair and calibration of ADAS. Let’s take a closer look at Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE outline document for ADAS.

According to the Mazda Workshop manual, “i-ACTIVSENSE is a collective term covering a series of advanced safety and driver support systems which make use of detection devices such as radar, sonar, and camera detection systems. These systems consist of active safety and pre-crash safety technologies.”

The Workshop manual will provide removal, installation, and calibration procedures for cameras, sensors, and other ADAS parts. However, while searching vehicle-specific Workshop manuals for ADAS information and calibration procedures, you will notice that this information is spread throughout different locations. To aid you in finding this information more easily, Mazda has provided a simplified i-ACTIVSENSE outline.

Once you are logged into Mazda’s paid subscription website:

1. Click on Electronic Service Information (upper left-hand side of website)
2. Click on Open Electronic Service Information (middle of the website)
3. Click on View Content (upper right-hand side of website)
4. Either Select Model or enter a VIN
5. Click Go (upper right-hand side of website) to open the list of publications
6. Expand the Service Highlights category list (left-hand side of website)
7. Expand i-ACTIVSENSE
8. Expand Outline
9. Click on i-ACTIVSENSE

The i-ACTIVSENSE document has a table of all the ADAS features, a definition of each system, and where all of the components are located. The outline also has a large table that lists components vertically on the left side, and the systems horizontally across the top. Below each system, in the boxes, is an “X” that will signify exactly what component(s) that system uses to operate. It is important to note that the outline is vehicle-specific.

It is important to always follow OEM procedures for repairs and calibration. Finding this information quickly and efficiently will contribute to a complete, safe, and quality repair.
