Nissan Position Statement: Seat Belt Replacement Considerations
Seat belts are an essential safety feature for occupants of a vehicle. Let’s take a look at Nissan’s position statement regarding seat belt replacement guidelines.
Per the Nissan Seat Belt Replacement Considerations position statement: “Inspect ALL seat belt assemblies, including retractors and buckles after a collision.” The statement goes on further with, “Nissan recommends that all seat belt assemblies in use during a collision be replaced, unless the collision was minor and the belts show no damage and continue to operate properly.” However, regardless of the severity of the collision, “the seat belt pre-tensioner should be replaced even if the seat belts are not in use during a collision in which the frontal air bags are deployed.”
Nissan provides component inspection procedures ranging from; checking the seat belt warning lamp to inspecting the seat belt D-ring anchor to a seat belt retractor on-vehicle check. Worth noting is that all seat belt retractors are Emergency Locking Retractors (ELR).
