BMW Forward Facing Camera Replacement

When advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are replaced after an accident, there may be some fine print that you don’t want to overlook. BMW/Mini has some interesting requirements after the KAFAS or forward facing camera is replaced, that the customer needs to be aware of.

When the customer comes to take delivery on their newly repaired vehicle, everything is expected to be fixed and functioning. However, that may not be the case. Per the BMW/Mini repair manual: “The calibration process of the KAFAS camera is not complete until the vehicle drives in traffic. Tell the customer that some driver assistance systems are temporarily unavailable after vehicle pick-up.”

If the shop does not relay the message to the customer, the customer may be relying on a safety feature that is not working. Which, could cause another accident and make an otherwise quality repair a failed repair.
