High-Voltage Handling And Storage Considerations: Volkswagen

High-voltage (HV) vehicles have some special considerations for handling and storing HV batteries and other components. The dangers of HV batteries are potential even after removal which is why certain precautions are needed. Let’s see what Volkswagen has to say.

Volkswagen (VW) provides information pertaining to HV systems storage and handling when performing a repair. For example, the information is available in the High-Voltage System - General Information Repair Manual for the 2019 VW e-Golf. Areas to review for considerations include:

  • 2.3 Clean Working Conditions When Working On High-Voltage System
    • Protecting surfaces for removed parts
    • Covering and sealing of openings and parts
    • Safety practices and precautions
  • 6.2 High-Voltage Battery, Handling and Storing
    • Guidelines for temporary storage of HV batteries
    • Handling batteries during a replacement procedure

    • Preparing batteries for transport

    • Safe handling of damaged batteries in or out of a vehicle

All precautions, including placards and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be observed when performing repairs on HV vehicles. Make sure to utilize Volkswagen repair information prior to beginning any repairs.
