OEM Linking Pin: Determining Rivet Quantities - Audi

As part of the I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) OEM Linking Pin activity, we are helping to connect the collision repair industry to the vehicle makers. Recently we had a technical inquiry that asked, "The body repair manual does not specify the number of rivets needed in the replacement procedure. How many rivets are needed?" We reached out to Audi for clarification.

Per our contact at Audi, depending on the type of rivet and how the rivet was removed, will determine the type of rivet to be used for re-assembly. On vehicles prior to 2017, the type of rivet is listed as a two-digit number in the notes area of the repair procedures. The repair instructions on some of the newer vehicles (2017-present) will have the information on what type and size of rivet must be used in various areas called out in the repair procedure graphic. In both cases, the quantity is determined by the number of rivets that were removed.

This is another example of the I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) initiative's OEM Linking Pin activity, where we are helping to connect the collision repair industry to the vehicle makers.
