OEM Linking Pin: Kia Seat Belt Replacement

As part of the I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) OEM linking pin activity, we are helping to connect the collision repair industry to the vehicle makers. Recently, we had a technical inquiry that asked for clarification on seat belt replacement after a collision.

While searching through Kia owner's manuals, you may see a statement that reads: "Replace your seat belts after being in an accident. Failure to replace seat belts after an accident could leave you with damaged seat belts that will not provide protection in the event of another collision."

The statement found in the owner's manuals is not specified in Kia service manuals or body repair manuals. We reached out to our contact for clarification on the owner's manual statement and whether the seat belts must be replaced following a collision.

Per our contact at Kia: "After a collision, be sure to inspect the seat belt system if it works normally. If not working normally, replace the seat belts with new one."
