I-CAR BMW Collision Repair Overview Course

I-CAR released a collision repair overview course for BMW. This course covers the history of BMW, online service information, construction materials, restraints inspection, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and more.

The course details the BMW service information site and includes videos that walk you through how to access and log into the website, and how to navigate and search for procedures within the repair manual.

How to read BMW chassis codes is also explained, as well as how they are useful in accessing specific information about a particular vehicle.

Information is provided on the construction materials BMW typically uses. Detailed information is given on non-steel construction materials, where they may be used, and guidelines for repair.

Details for non-structural straightening, sectioning, and panel attachment is covered. This includes the use of adhesive bonding, plug welding, and GMA welding. In addition, a list of BMW-approved squeeze-type resistance spot welding (STRSW) equipment is provided.

There is information on BMW restraints and ADAS. This includes how to identify what restraints components typically require inspection or replacement after a collision. BMW ADAS cameras/sensors are detailed. A description of their function is given, along with typical programming and calibration requirements.

BMW pre- and post-scan requirements are also covered, as well as bumper cover repair and refinishing near or over ADAS sensors.

These are just a few highlights of what this course has to offer. Having a good understanding of BMW’s recommendations, positions, and where to access repair information is important to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
