OEM Emergency Response Guides: National Fire Protection Association - UPDATE

Are you looking for OEM emergency response guides (ERGs)? The Repairability Technical Support (RTS) team has located these guides and either houses them on the RTS website, provides links to webpages that house them, or provides articles with instructions on how to locate them.

These guides provide information about the vehicle that is useful to emergency response personnel. You may find ERGs available for many types of vehicles, but most OEMs focus on how to handle a high-voltage (HV) vehicle that has been involved in a collision.

For certain models, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) website is useful. This website does not require a subscription to access.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to find an ERG on the NFPA site:

  1. Go to nfpa.org
  2. Click Education and Research (top of webpage)
  3. Click EV Emergency Response Guides under Emergency Response
    • option 1: Select an OEM from List (left of webpage)
    • option 2: Use Search bar
      1. Enter vehicle maker name
      2. Click magnifying glass icon
  4. Select vehicle maker from results
  5. Select vehicle from list

It’s important to remember that the ERGs do not provide all the necessary information to repair HV vehicles. The OEM procedure and precautions always need to be followed to ensure the safety of the technician, as well as a complete, safe, and quality repair.
