DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

WARNING: Always deplete the backup power supply before repairing or installing any new front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) component and before servicing, removing, installing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side impact sensors or the restraints control module (RCM). Nearby components include doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.

To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 1 minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).

1.Turn all vehicle accessories OFF
2. Turn the ignition OFF
3. At the Smart Junction Box (SJB), located below the RH side of the instrument panel, remove the RH lower cowl trim panel and remove RCM fuse 8 (10A) from the SJB. For additional information, refer to the Wiring Diagrams manual.
4. Turn the ignition ON and monitor the air bag warning indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag warning indicator will remain lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse has been removed. If the air bag warning indicator does not remain lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding.
5. Turn the ignition OFF
6. Disconnect the battery ground cable
7. ait at least one minute

For a front airbag deployment:
• All deployed devices:
• Steering wheel mounted airbag, [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL], (if deployed)
• Instrument Panel mounted passenger's airbag, [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL], (if deployed)
• Impact sensors
• Restraints control module (RCM) [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Clockspring (when the driver air bag module has deployed)
• Driver's safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters), (if deployed)
• Passenger's safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters), (if deployed)
• Any damaged or defective restraint system part

For a side seat air bag deployment (if equipped):
• All deployed devices:
• Side seat air bag [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT]
• Driver's safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters), (if deployed)
• Passenger's safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters), (if deployed)
• Impact sensors
• Restraints control module (RCM) [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Any damaged or defective restraint system part




PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

• Steering column (deployable column if equipped)
• Instrument panel knee bolsters and mounting points
• Instrument panel braces and brackets
• Instrument panel and mounting points
• Seats and seat mounting points
• Seat belt assemblies, hardware and mounting points
• Supplemental restraint system (SRS) wiring, wiring harnesses and connectors
• Restraints Control Module (RCM) and impact sensor mounting points and mounting hardware
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by the restraint diagnostic checks
