DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

When carrying out straightening and welding work with an electric welder:
• Disconnect battery
• Cover negative terminal (post)

Work on components of the airbag system should only ever be carried out with the battery disconnected, the negative terminal post covered and the plug connection of the cable leading to the gas generator disconnected. If only the battery is disconnected, the following prescribed waiting period must be observed without fail:

1 minute for vehicles from 9/93

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

Replace the following components after airbag triggering:

• Driver airbag module [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL], [if Deployed]
• Replace steering wheel, with deployed Driver airbag module
• Passenger airbag module [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL], [if Deployed]
• Replace side airbag module [AIRBAG,DRIVER DOOR, AIRBAG,FRT PASS DOOR], [if Deployed]
• Replace side airbag module [AIRBAG, REAR DOOR], [if Deployed]
• Replace gas generator, active head restraint system [UNIT,ACTIVE HEADREST], [if Deployed]
• Roof Airbag module [AIRBAG, ROOF], [if Deployed]
• Replace faulty components

NOTE: Head restraint: The gas generator can be replaced up to 5 times. If the severity of the impact has not caused any other damage to the seat, only the triggered gas generator needs to be replaced.

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Check and/or replace following components after airbag triggering:

Satellites (control unit + sensor) Components:
• Satellite, A-/B-pillar, left/right [AIRBAG SENSOR,SIDE]
• Satellite, front door [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR]
• Satellite, driver's/front passenger side [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT BMPR]
• Satellite, vehicle centre [MODULE, AIRBAG CONTROL]

Cables and plugs
• Check cables and plugs for damage, replace if necessary.
(e. g. corrosion, correct engagement, bent pin)

Belt system
• Automatic reel
• Belt buckle tensioner
• Seatbelt height adjustment
• End fitting pretensioner
• Check components, replace if necessary

Seats
• Seat
• Active head restraint
• Check seats (function check of seat mechanism), replace if necessary
• Check seat screw/bolt connections
• Gas generator, active head restraint system. The gas generator can be replaced up to 5 times
• Seat cover with upholstery

Driver's airbag
• Airbag module
• Steering Wheel
• Steering column (if damaged)
• Replace faulty components

Front-passenger airbag
• Airbag module
• Dashboard trim panel (must be replaced with vehicles without
replaceable airbag cover!)
• Supporting tube (if damaged)
• Check components; replace if necessary

Side airbag, front/rear
• Airbag module
• Door panel
• Door in white
• Seat
• Check components; replace if necessary

Head airbag
• Airbag module
• Cover, A-pillar
• Roofliner
• Trim, B-pillar (if damaged)
• Trim, C-pillar (if damaged)
• Connection/mounting (on side frame)
• Check components; replace if necessary

Passive knee protector
• Trim panels (driver's side)
• Glovebox incl. knee protector (passenger side)
• Replace faulty components
• Check fastening elements
