2007 Ford Ranger

DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

Warning! To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag SRS components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting, or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors or RCM, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.

1. Turn all vehicle accessories OFF.
2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
3. (Ranger) At the smart junction box (SJB), located below RH side of the instrument panel, remove the restraints control module (RCM) fuse 8 from the SJB.
3. (F150 -08) At the central junction box (CJB), located below the RH side of the instrument panel, remove the trim panel, the cover, and the restraints control module (RCM) fuse 19 from the CJB.
3. (F150 09-) At the central junction box (SJB), located below the RH side of the instrument panel, remove the trim panel, the cover, and the restraints control module (RCM) fuse 31 from the CJB.
4. Turn the ignition ON and visually monitor the air bag indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag indicator will remain lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse has been removed. If the air bag indicator does not remain lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding.
5. Turn the ignition OFF.
6. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
7. Wait at least 1 minute.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

• All deployed devices (driver air bag, passenger air bag, safety belt pretensioners, Seat Airbag if deployed etc.)
• Impact sensors
• Clockspring (when the driver air bag module has deployed)
• Restraints control module (RCM)
• New driver and/or front passenger safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters) must be installed if the vehicle is involved in a collision that results in deployment of the driver and/or front passenger safety belt pretensioners
• Any damaged or defective restraint system part

Side Airbag Deployment (Seat Airbag if equipped):

• All deployed devices (driver air bag, passenger air bag, safety belt pretensioners, Seat Airbag if deployed etc.)
• If a side air bag deployment took place, a new seat back pad, trim cover and side air bag module must be installed. The seat backrest frame should be installed new if necessary.
• New driver and/or front passenger safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters) must be installed if the vehicle is involved in a collision that results in deployment of the driver and/or front passenger safety belt pretensioners
• Restraints control module (RCM)
• Impact sensors

• Any damaged or defective restraint system part



PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

• Steering column and wheel
• Occupancy classification sensor (passenger)
• Seats and seat mounting points
• Instrument panel knee bolsters and mounting points
• Instrument panel braces and brackets
• Safety belts, safety belt buckles and safety belt retractors
• Instrument panel and mounting points
• Restraints control module bracket and surrounding sheet metal
• Supplemental restraint system (SYS) wiring, wiring harnesses and connectors

• Impact sensor brackets and surrounding sheet metal
•When a vehicle has been involved in a collision and the occupant classification system module (OCSM) has DTC B1231 or DTC B1231/B1193:00 (2009-) stored in memory, the repair of the OCS system is to include the following procedures for the specified system:
1.For rail type OCS system, inspect the passenger side floorpan for damage and repair as necessary. Install new OCS rails.
2.For weight sensor bolt type OCS system, inspect the passenger side floorpan for damage and repair as necessary. Install a new seat track with OCS weight sensor bolts.
3. For bladder-type OCS system, inspect for damage and repair as necessary. If installation of an OCS system component is required, an OCS system service kit must be installed.
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by the restraint diagnostic checks
