DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)
WARNING:To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by an authorized NISSAN dealer.
1. Turn ignition switch OFF
2. Disconnect both battery cables
3. Wait at least 3 minutes or more.
Before disconnecting the air bag sensor unit harness connector, be sure to disconnect the each harness
connector of the air bag module and pre-tensioner seat belt to prevent air bag deployment by static electricity and pre-tensioner seat belt operation
REV: 10/2013
PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT
For front air bag deployment:• Driver's Air bag module [AIRBAG, STEERING WHEEL], if deployed
• Front passenger air bag module, [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL] (If Deployed) (if equipped)
• If any of the front air bags or seat belt pre-tensioners have deployed: REPLACE the crash zone sensor [AIRBAG,SENSOR,FRONT] and bracket(s) with new fasteners
• Replace deployed seat belt pre-tensioner assemblies with new fasteners
• If any of the SRS components have deployed: REPLACE the Diagnosis sensor unit [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• If the driver front air bag has deployed: REPLACE the spiral cable [CLOCK SPRING]
• If the passenger front air bag has deployed: REPLACE the instrument panel assembly. (integrated type)
• Replace any seat belt assembly if: The seat belt was in use at the time of a collision (except for minor collisions and the belts, retractors and buckles show no damage and continue to operate properly).
• The front seat belt pre-tensioner must be replaced even if the seat belts are not in use during the collision in which the air bags are deployed.
• Never use the old fixing nut or bolts after removal, replace with the new nuts and bolts
For side seat air bag and door-mounted curtain air bag deployment:
• If the front side air bag LH has deployed: REPLACE front seatback assembly LH. [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT]
• If the front side air bag RH has deployed: REPLACE front seatback assembly [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT]
• If any of the SRS components have deployed: REPLACE the side air bag (satellite) sensor on the collision side with new fasteners [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
• Diagnosis sensor unit [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Replace deployed seat belt pre-tensioner assemblies with new fasteners
• If the door-mounted curtain air bag module LH has deployed: REPLACE the door finisher LH and door-mounted curtain air bag module. Install with new fasteners [AIRBAG,FRONT DOOR]
• If the door-mounted curtain air bag module RH has deployed: REPLACE the door finisher RH and door-mounted curtain air bag module. Install with new fasteners [AIRBAG,FRONT DOOR]
• If the pop-up roll bar has deployed: REPLACE pop-up roll bar assemblies and pop-up roll bar covers. Install with new fasteners [ROLL BAR ASSEMBLY]
PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED
For front air bag deployment:• Airbag modules that have NOT deployed
• Steering wheel assembly
• Replace any SRS components showing visible signs of damage.
• Spiral cable, If the driver front air bag has not deployed
• Instrument panel assembly, If the passenger front air bag has NOT deployed
• Seat assemblies and mounting points
• Inspect the seat belt attaching area for damage or distortion and repair as necessary before installing a new seat belt assembly.
• If any component of seat belt assembly is questionable, do not repair. Replace the whole seat belt assembly.
• Inspect the supplemental restraint System component attaching areas for damage or distortion and repair as necessary before installing new components
• Occupant classification system (Passenger seat)
• Harness and connectors, If damaged—REPLACE the damaged harness. Do not attempt to repair, splice or modify any SRS harness.
For side seat air bag and door-mounted curtain air bag deployment:
• Airbag modules that have NOT deployed
• After passenger front air bag inflates, the front instrument panel assembly should be replaced if damaged
• Trim/headlining on the collision side
• Side air bag (satellite) sensor (LH or RH) on the collision side
• Seat assemblies and mounting points
• Inspect the seat belt attaching area for damage or distortion and repair as necessary before installing a new seat belt assembly.
• If any component of seat belt assembly is questionable, do not repair. Replace the whole seat belt assembly.
• Inspect the supplemental restraint System component attaching areas for damage or distortion and repair as necessary before installing new components
• Occupant classification system (Passenger seat)
• Harness and connectors, If damaged—REPLACE the damaged harness. Do not attempt to repair, splice or modify any SRS harness.
Replace any seat belt assembly (including anchor bolts) if:
• The seat belt is in use at the time of a collision (except for minor collisions and the belts, retractors and buckles show no damage and continue to operate properly).
• The seat belt is damaged in an accident (i.e. torn webbing, bent retractor or guide).
• The seat belt attaching point is damaged in an accident. Inspect the seat belt attaching area for damage or distortion and repair as necessary before installing a new seat belt assembly.
• Anchor bolts are deformed or worn out.
• (If Damaged) The front seat belt pre-tensioner must be replaced even if the seat belts are not in use during the collision in which the air bags are deployed.
