PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

Any vehicle which is to be returned to use following a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) component deployment must have the deployed restraints replaced.

If the driver airbag is deployed:
• Driver airbag [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL]
• Clockspring assembly
• Seat Belt Tensioners

If the knee blocker airbag is deployed:
• Knee blocker airbag [AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
• The mounting plate must also be replaced.

If the passenger airbag is deployed:
• Passenger airbag [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL]
• Instrument Panel cover
• Seat Belt Tensioners
• Passenger Airbag Wiring Harness or Connector may be required. Use recommended splicing kit and procedure.

When seat Airbag has deployed:
• Thorax airbag [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT]
• Seat back frame
• Seat back foam
• Seat back trim cover

If a side curtain airbag is deployed:
• Side Curtain Airbag [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• Headliner
• A, B, C, and D-pillar trims on the same side of the vehicle as the deployed airbag

If a seat belt tensioner is deployed:
• The seat belt tensioners are deployed in conjunction with the front airbags, but can also be deployed with seat (pelvic and thorax) or side curtain airbags. The seat belt ensioners must be replaced if either front airbag has been deployed, and must be inspected if either seat or side curtain airbag has been deployed

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

• It is critical that the mounting surfaces and mounting brackets for the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), side impact sensors, and front impact sensors be closely inspected and restored to their original conditions following any vehicle impact damage. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL; AIRBAG SENSOR,FENDER; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,SIDE; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]

If an active head restraint is deployed:
• Deployed Active Head Restraint (AHR) units that are undamaged are designed with the intention of reuse. However, the deployed AHR units must be properly reset following deployment.

• If the driver airbag has been deployed, the Steering Column Assembly must be inspected
• Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator
• Sunroof and the drain tubes and hoses
• All other seat belts, buckles, etc should be closely inspected for cuts, tears, fraying or damage in any way following any frontal impact or airbag deployment. The seat belts are to be replaced when visible damage is incurred.
• Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren (LATCH) child restraint anchors
• Inspect all trim panels
• The seat belt tensioners must be inspected if either seat or side airbag has been deployed
• All other airbag and vehicle components should be closely inspected following any airbag deployment, and should be replaced when visible damage is incurred.

There are two methods by which an airbag or seat belt tensioner may be connected to the vehicle electrical system.
1) The first method involves a short pigtail harness and connector insulator that are integral to the airbag or tensioner unit and are replaced as a unit with the service replacement airbag or seat belt tensioner unit.
2) However, the second connection method involves a wire harness takeout and connector insulator that are connected directly to the airbag or tensioner initiator or squib. These direct-connect type take outs and connector insulators MUST be repaired following an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment using the approved Supplemental Restraint System Wiring Repairs procedure.

All other vehicle components should be closely inspected following any SRS component deployment, but are to be replaced only as required by the extent of the visible damage incurred.
