DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)
1. Battery ground (GND) strap must be disconnected. No waiting time is necessary after disconnecting the battery.Note:
Technicians must electrostatically discharge themselves by touching a grounded metal part like, for example, water pipes, heater pipes or metal frame.
PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT
For a front airbag deployment:• All deployed airbag units (g/n 0878, 0912)
• Support and bracket for front passenger module (g/n 0915, 0920, 0927, 0949, 0950)
• Control module (only replace after deployment if "control module faulty" DTC is set or control module is damaged) (g/n 0889)
• Return spring with slip ring [Clockspring] (g/n 0887)
• All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been deployed (g/n 0852, 0853, 0856, 0857, 0919)
• Any damaged restraint system part
For a front side airbag deployment:
• All deployed airbag units (g/n 0814, 0815)
• All airbag wiring harnesses for side airbag in seat, if unit is deployed
• All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been deployed (g/n 0852, 0853, 0856, 0857, 0919)
• Seat cover and cushion if unit is deployed
• Any damaged restraint system part
For a rear side airbag deployment (4 door only):
• All deployed airbag units (g/n 0753, 0754)
• Microencapsulated bolts
• All airbag wiring harnesses for side airbag in seat, if unit is deployed
• All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been deployed (g/n 0852, 0853, 0856, 0857, 0919)
• Seat cover and cushion if unit is deployed
• Any damaged restraint system part
For a curtain side airbag deployment:
• All deployed airbag units (g/n 0803, 0804)
• Pillar trims (A, B, and C pillar trims)
• Door seal with weather stripping
• Guide piece for curtain airbag
• Headliner
• Grab handle brackets
• Connecting strip (for headliner)
• Any damaged restraint system part
PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED
• Roof closeout moulding• Grab handles
• Rear interior lights
• Passenger Occupant Detection System sensor (PODS)
• Seatbelt system
• Seat belt securing parts and mounting points
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check
Warning!
The seat belt system is to be systematically checked after every accident! If damage has been found according to check points, the customer is to be notified of the necessity of a seat belt replacement.
Seat Belt Check Points:
• Check belt webbing
• Check retractor (locking function)
• Visual check of belt buckle
• Function check of belt buckle
• Checking guide rings and seat belt buckle tongue
• Check securing components and anchorage points
