2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse

DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

1. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery and tape the terminal to prevent accidental connection and air bag(s) deployment.
2. Wait at least 60 seconds after disconnecting the battery cable before doing any further work.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

After the air bag deployment, replace the air bag module with a new one:

WHEN FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• SRS-ECU [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Air bag modules [AIRBAG, STEERING WHEEL, AIRBAG, INSTRUMENT PNL], if deployed
• After deployment of an air bag, replace the clock spring with a new one
• Seat belt with pre-tensioner, if deployed
• Slide adjuster (Occupant classification-ECU, occupant classification sensor) [TRACK,PASS BUCKET]
• Front impact sensors [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT]

WHEN SIDE AND CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• SRS-ECU [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Side impact sensors [AIRBAG SENSOR,SIDE]
• Front seat back assembly (includes side air bag modules) [AIRBAG & SEAT BACK ASSY], if deployed
• Curtain air bag modules [AIRBAG,ROOF], if deployed
• Slide adjuster (Occupant classification-ECU, occupant classification sensor) [TRACK,PASS BUCKET]
• Seat belt with pre-tensioner, if deployed

If the SRS components are showing any visible damage such as dents, cracks, or deformation, replace them with new ones

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

• Perform SRS-ECU memory check
• Check the SRS components. If the SRS components are showing any visible damage such as dents, cracks, or deformation, replace them with new ones

WHEN FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• Seat slide sensor
• Seat belt switch
• Steering wheel, steering column and shaft assembly
• Check the wiring harnesses for binding, the connectors for damage, poor connections, and the terminals for deformation

WHEN SIDE AND CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• Check the wiring harnesses for binding, the connectors for damage, poor connections, and the terminals for deformation
• Never attempt to disassemble or repair the occupant classification • ECU or the occupant classification sensor. If faulty, replace it.

If the SRS components are showing any visible damage such as dents, cracks, or deformation, replace them with new ones
