DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

WARNING
Service or maintenance of any SRS component or SRS-related component must be performed only at an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer.

1. Turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" (OFF) position
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery and tape the terminal to prevent accidental connection and air bag(s) deployment
3. Wait 60 seconds or more before proceeding with work.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

After the air bag deployment, replace the air bag module with a new one.

WHEN FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• SRS-ECU [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• DRIVERS air bag module [AIRBAG, STEERING WHEEL], if deployed
• Passenger’s (front) air bag module [AIRBAG, INSTRUMENT PNL], if deployed
• Knee air bag module [AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER], if deployed
• Seat belt with pre-tensioner
• Front impact sensors [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT]
• Instrument trim assembly
• Front passenger’s seat cushion frame assembly (Occupant classification-ECU and weight sensor)

WHEN SIDE AND CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• SRS-ECU [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Front seatback assembly [AIRBAG & SEAT BACK ASSY], if deployed, When replacing the side-airbag module, replace the seat frame assembly
• Curtain air bag module [AIRBAG,ROOF], if deployed
• Side impact sensor (front and rear) [AIRBAG SENSOR,SIDE; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
• Headlining
• Front pillar trim, center pillar trim upper, quarter trim upper
• Seat belt with pre-tensioner

WHEN CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• SRS-ECU [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Side impact sensors (rear) [AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
• Front passenger’s seat cushion frame assembly (Occupant classification-ECU and weight sensor)
• Curtain airbag modules [AIRBAG, ROOF], if deployed
• Seat belt with pre-tensioner

WHEN CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOY AND SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER OPERATE IN A COLLISION:

• SRS-ECU [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Side impact sensors (rear) [AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
• Front passenger’s seat cushion frame assembly (Occupant classification-ECU and weight sensor)
• Curtain airbag modules [AIRBAG, ROOF], if deployed
• Seat belt with pre-tensioner

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

• Perform SRS-ECU memory check
• Check the SRS components. If the SRS components are showing any visible damage such as dents, cracks, or deformation, replace them with new ones
• When removing and installing the front passenger seat, be sure to carry out accuracy check of the occupant classification sensor after the seat has been installed in the vehicle.

WHEN FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• Clock spring
• Seat belt switch
• Steering wheel, steering column assembly
• Instrument panel assembly
• Check the wiring harnesses for binding, the connectors for damage, poor connections, and the terminals for deformation

WHEN SIDE AND CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOY IN A COLLISION:

• Check the wiring harnesses for binding, the connectors for damage, poor connections, and the terminals for deformation
