DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

Before beginning with:
• body repairs / Bodywork
• Work on airbags or emergency tensioning retractors (removal installation)
• Work on components associated with airbags or emergency tensioning retractors, or which require access to their electric circuit, e.g. for removal of the steering wheel

1) Disconnect and isolate the battery ground line.

Before commencing welding work:
1. Remove ignition key or transmitter key
2. Disconnect and isolate ground line at the battery
3. Remove connector from the control unit for the airbags and emergency tensioning retractors

After completion of work on airbags and emergency tensioning retractors, the supplemental restraint system must always be tested with a diagnosis system.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

Airbags or emergency tensioning retractors must be replaced: After deployment.
• [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL], [if deployed]
• [AIRBAG, KNEE BOLSTER], [if deployed]
• [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL], [if deployed]
• [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT BACK; AIRBAG,FRT SEAT CUSHION], [if deployed]
• [AIRBAG,REAR SEAT], [if deployed]
• [AIRBAG,ROOF], [if deployed]
• Emergency tensioning retractor units must be replaced: After deployment

• After the driver airbag has been deployed, the steering wheel and steering column tubes with crash element must be replaced [WHEEL,STEERING; COLUMN ASSEMBLY,STRG]
• After the front passenger airbag has deployed, the instrument panel must be replaced.
• After deployment of the kneebag, the lower cover of the instrument panel must be replaced (if the kneebag is installed behind the lower instrument panel cover).

• Defective or damaged components must be immediately replaced. Repair of these components is not permitted.

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Following an accident:
• The airbag and emergency tensioning retractor system must be checked for external damage, defects and deployments.
• Defective or damaged components must be replaced immediately; repairing these components is not permissible.

The restraint system control unit must be replaced:
• If the housing is deformed or damaged.
• If the mounting bracket is deformed, even if the external appearance of the restraint system control unit appears to be in order.
• In case of electrical defect
• After three airbag deployments.
A new restraint system control unit must be programmed and parameterized after installation.

The airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units must be replaced:
• If there is external damage (even without deployment)
• If there is an electrical defect.

If axial play or a noise is detected at the steering column tube, this must also be replaced, even if the airbag was not deployed. [COLUMN ASSEMBLY,STRG]
