DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

1. When working on the airbag system, the battery Ground (GND) strap must be disconnected.
2. No waiting time is necessary after disconnecting the battery.
3. On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch off emergency (back-up) battery for Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery


PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

For a front airbag deployment:
• Any Deplyed Airbag
• Battery switch off relay J655
• Both sensors for front airbags on front end
• Airbag control module
• Instrument panel (with a passenger side airbag deployment)
• Self-cancelling ring/coil connector with slip ring (with a driver's side airbag deployment)
• All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Any damaged restraint system part

For a front side airbag deployment:
• Drivers side aibag (If Deployed)
• Passengers side airbag (If Deployed)
• Lateral acceleration sensor on side where airbag has been triggered
• Seat backrest padding
• Upholstery stables (metal and plastic)
• Airbag control module
• All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Any damaged restraint system part


•For a rear side airbag deployment:
• Drivers side aibag (If Deployed)
• Passengers side airbag (If Deployed)
• Lateral acceleration sensor on side where airbag has been triggered
• Seat backrest padding
• Upholstery stables (metal and plastic)
• Airbag control module
• All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Any damaged restraint system part


For a roof airbag deployment:
• Drivers side airbag (If Deployed)
• Passenger side airbag (If Deployed)
• Airbag control module can be used for up to three activations of side curtain airbags and/or belt tensioners. After the third activation, the DTC "control module malfunctioning" will appear.
• Lateral acceleration sensor on side where airbag has been triggered
• Trims pillars A, B, C, D
• All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Any damaged restraint system part

Airbag control module must be replaced:

• After a driver/front passenger airbag has been triggered
• After side curtain airbag and/or belt tensioner has been triggered three times
• If housing is damaged
• If there is a deformation at channel, in circumference of 200 mm around control module

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

For a front airbag deployment:
• Supports for passenger side airbag unit (must not be bent back into place)
• Lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor has been deformed
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

For a side airbag deployment:
• Non-triggered lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor has been deformed
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

For a head airbag deployment:
• Non-triggered lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor has been deformed
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check
