DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

1. Battery ground (GND) strap/cable must be disconnected.
2. Cover negative battery post.
No waiting time is necessary after disconnecting the battery.

Note:
Technicians must electrostatically discharge themselves by touching a grounded metal part, for example, door striker

Warning!
Harness connector -5• (red, 2-pin) to passenger-side airbag unit must not be disconnected under any circumstances!

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

For a front passenger airbag deployment:

• Passengers Air Bag Module (If Deployed)
• Airbag control module
• Instrument panel
• Deformed passenger module supports
• Both front airbag sensors on front end
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been deployed
• Any damaged or defective restraint system part

For a front driver airbag deployment:

• Airbag control module
• Coil connector with slip ring [Clockspring]
• Both front airbag sensors on front end
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been deployed
• Any damaged or defective restraint system part

Airbag control module must be replaced:

• For airbag generation 8.• not 8.R, after two deployments of side airbag deployment and/or belt tensioners
• For airbag generation 9.• and 9.R after two deployments of side, driver, passenger airbags and/or belt tensioner
• If driver/passenger airbag has deployed (does not apply for airbag generation 9.• and 8.R)
• If housing is damaged
• If there is a deformation at channel, in circumference of 200 mm around control module

For a side airbag deployment:

• Drivers side(If Deployed)
•Passengers side airbag(If Deployed)
• Lateral acceleration sensor for side airbag that deployed
• For foldable rear backrest : Side padding
• A, B, C, and D pillar pillar trim
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Airbag control module (after three side airbag deployments)
• Any damaged or defective restraint system part

For a knee airbag deployment:

• Drivers side knee airbag (If Deployed)
•Passenger side airbag(If Deployed)
• Lateral acceleration sensor for side airbag that deployed
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been deployed

For a head/curtain airbag deployment:
• Drivers side airbag (If Deployed)
•Passengers side airbag(If Deployed)
• Lateral acceleration sensor for side airbag that deployed
• Trim panel at A-pillar, B-pillar, C-pillar, D-pillar
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been deployed
• Airbag control module (after three side/side curtain airbag and/or belt tensioner deployments)
• Any damaged restraint system part
• Airbag control module (after two side and/or head airbag deployments)
• Any damaged restraint system part

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

For a front passenger airbag deployment:

• Lateral acceleration sensor (replace if area near sensor in floor pan is deformed)
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

Warning!

The seat belt system is to be systematically checked after every accident! If damage has been found according to check points, the customer is to be notified of the necessity of a seat belt replacement.

Seat Belt Check Points:
• Check belt webbing
• Check automatic retraction (stop function)
• Visual check of belt buckle
• Function check of belt buckle
• Checking guide stops and seat belt buckle tongue
• Check attachment components and attachment points

For a front driver airbag deployment:

• Lateral acceleration sensor (replace if area near sensor in floor pan is deformed)
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

For a side airbag deployment:

• Lateral acceleration sensor (replace if area near sensor in floor pan is deformed)
• Airbag control module (replace if three or more side and/or head airbag deployments; replace if housing is damaged; replace if tunnel deformation within 200 mm radius of control unit)
• Passive Occupant Detection System must be replaced by service kit if seat rails or seat pan are replaced due to deformation
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check
