DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

1. Inspection, testing and installation work may only be carried out by expert trained personnel in BMW Service.
2. Remove ignition key.
3. Disconnect battery negative terminal and cover.
4. Work on components of the airbag system should only be carried out with the battery disconnected, the negative terminal post covered and the plug connection of the cable leading to the gas generator disconnected. If only the battery is disconnected, it is absolutely essential to adhere to the specified waiting period: 1 minute.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

For a front airbag deployment:
• Control unit
• Driver's airbag module
• Steering wheel
• Passenger airbag module
• Buckle/belt tensioners in use at time of collision
• Safety battery terminal
• Any damaged restraint system part

For a side airbag deployment:
• Side airbag modules
• Door trim panel
• Control unit
• Buckle/belt tensioners in use at time of collision
• Safety battery terminal
• Any damaged restraint system part


PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

For a front airbag deployment:
• Airbag cables
• Sensors (front doors and B pillars)
• Knee protectors (driver and passenger)
• Seats
• Steering column
• All seat belt systems and components
• Seatbelt mountings to the car body
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

For a side airbag deployment:
• Airbag cables
• Sensors (front doors and B pillars)
• Seats
• All seat belt systems and components
• Seatbelt mountings to the car body
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

Important!

Only repair those cables which show visible signs of damage. In the event of visible damage, make sure there is only one cable repair in effect after the repair work. If no visible damage can be identified, the entire cable must be replaced. When carrying out repairs to the airbag wiring harness, you must use the spare parts offered in the Electronic Parts
Catalog (EPC)
