DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

Caution:
Before handling airbag units or disconnecting electrical connector, Technician must electrostatically discharge. This can be done by touching a door striker.

Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap, cover negative battery post. No waiting time is required after disconnecting the battery.






PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

For a front passenger airbag deployment:

• Deployed airbag unit
• Airbag control module
• Instrument panel
• All front airbag sensors on front end
• Battery switch-off relay J655 or Battery interrupt igniter N253 (whichever is applicable)
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Any damaged restraint system part

For a front driver airbag deployment:

• Deployed airbag unit
• Airbag control module
• Coil connector with slip ring [Clockspring]
• All front airbag sensors on front end
• Battery switch-off relay J655 or Battery interrupt igniter N253 (whichever is applicable)
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Any damaged restraint system part

For a head airbag deployment

• A-pillar trim
• B-pillar trim
• C-pillar trim
• D-pillar trim


For a side airbag deployment:

• Deployed airbag unit(s)
• Pressure sensors on deployed side
• Cross acceleration sensors on deployed side
• Seat backrest cover
• Seat upholstery
• For foldable rear backrest : Side padding
• Battery switch-off relay J655 or Battery interrupt igniter N253 (whichever is applicable)
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Airbag control module
• Any damaged restraint system part

For a side curtain airbag deployment:

• Deployed airbag unit(s)
• Cross acceleration sensors on deployed side
• Trim panel at A-pillar, B-pillar, C-pillar, D-pillar
• Battery switch-off relay J655 or Battery interrupt igniter N253 (whichever is applicable)

Airbag control module must be replaced:

• After a driver-side/passenger-side airbag deployment (Does not apply to airbag generation 9 and 8.R)
• After three deployments of side/curtain or seat belt tensioners
• If housing is damaged
• If there is a deformation at channel, in circumference of 200 mm around control module
• All seat belts (front and rear) with belt tensioners that have been triggered
• Airbag control module
• Any damaged restraint system part

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

For a front passenger airbag deployment:

• Cross acceleration sensors (if area near anchorage point is deformed)
• Passenger airbag module supports
• Instrument panel central tube
• Glove compartment
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

Warning!

The seat belt system is to be systematically checked after every accident! If damage has been found according to check points, the customer is to be notified of the necessity of a seat belt replacement.

Seat Belt Check Points:
• Check belt webbing
• Check retractor (locking function)
• Visual inspection of belt buckle
• Function check of belt buckle
• Check belt guide rings and locking tongue
• Check securing components and anchorage points

For a front driver airbag deployment:

• Cross acceleration sensors (if area near anchorage point is deformed)
• Steering wheel
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

For a side airbag deployment:

• Cross acceleration sensors (if area near anchorage point is deformed)
• Airbag control module
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

For a side curtain airbag deployment:

• Cross acceleration sensors (if area near anchorage point is deformed)
• Airbag control module
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check
