Airbag sensor:
1. All airbag sensors in damaged/deformed areas of the vehicle must always be replaced. [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
2. Otherwise (i.e. even if the vehicle was not crashed), the airbag sensors must be replaced if they show signs of mechanical damage and/or if the airbag control unit detects that the airbag sensor is defective (use PIWIS Tester II 9818 to read out the fault memory).
3. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time [MODULE, AIRBAG CONTROL]

Belt tensioner:
1. All triggered belt tensioner units.
2. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time [MODULE, AIRBAG CONTROL]

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Steering Column:
The steering column must be replaced by a new or replacement unit if one of the following point applies:
1. Impact is felt by occupants.
2. Airbag has been triggered.
3. Visible or perceptible damage to the steering column.
4. Play in the steering shaft line.
5. Fire damage.

Using the PIWIS Tester II 9818, read out the fault memory

Always replace units that are mechanically damaged (bulges, cracks).

Airbag unit, passenger's side:
• Check dashboard bracket for deformation and replace if necessary

Head airbag unit, door:
• Check door unit carrier for deformation and replace if necessary.

Belt tensioner:
Because it is difficult to visually determine if one or more belt tensioners has been triggered, check the following points:
– Using the PIWIS Tester II 9818, read out the fault memory.
– Check plug connection on the belt tensioner for damage.
– Pull out the belt strap as far as possible and check for wear.
– Perform a function test on the automatic belt device.
