DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

1. Switch off ignition
2. Disconnect and cover the negative terminal of the battery
3. Wait 1 minute and only then should you disconnect the plug connection.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

The following components must be removed and replaced after the airbag system is triggered:

With a Triggered Airbag unit, driver's side:
1. Contact unit [CLOCK SPRING/LVR,STRG]
2. Airbag unit, driver's side. [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL; AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
3. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
4. All airbag sensors in damaged/deformed areas of the vehicle must always be replaced. [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]

The steering column must be replaced by a new or exchange unit if one of the following points applies:
1. Impact is felt by occupants.
2. Airbag has been triggered.

With a Triggered Airbag unit, passenger's side:
1. Airbag unit, passenger's side. [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL; AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
2. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
3. Dashboard, Check dashboard bracket for deformation and replace if necessary
4. All airbag sensors in damaged/deformed areas of the vehicle must always be replaced. [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]

With a Triggered Side-airbag unit, seat:
1. Side airbag unit, seat. [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT; AIRBAG,REAR SEAT]
2. Seat covering, deformed seat components.
3. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
4. All airbag sensors in damaged/deformed areas of the vehicle must always be replaced. [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]

With a Triggered Head airbag unit:
1. Head airbag unit. [AIRBAG,ROOF]
2. Replace roof lining
3. All airbag sensors in damaged/deformed areas of the vehicle must always be replaced. [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
4. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]

Airbag sensor:
1. All airbag sensors in damaged/deformed areas of the vehicle must always be replaced. [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
2. Otherwise (i.e. even if the vehicle was not crashed), the airbag sensors must be replaced if they show signs of mechanical damage and/or if the airbag control unit detects that the airbag sensor is defective (use use PIWIS Tester 3 9900 to read out the fault memory).
3. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]

Seat-belt pretensioners:
1. All triggered belt tensioner units, front and rear.
2. Triggering unit after the system is triggered for the third time. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Steering column:
The steering column must be replaced by a new or replacement unit if one of the following points applies:
1. Visible or perceptible damage to the steering column.
2. Play in steering shaft line.
3. Fire damage.

• Airbag sensor: the airbag sensors must be replaced if they show signs of mechanical damage and/or if the airbag control unit detects that the airbag sensor is defective
(use PIWIS Tester 3 9900 to read out the fault memory).

Because it is difficult to visually determine if one or more seat-belt pretensioners has been triggered,
check the following points:
– Use PIWIS Tester 9818 to read out the fault memory.
– Check plug connection on the seat-belt pretensioner for damage.
– Pull out the belt strap as far as possible and check for wear.
– Perform a function test on the automatic belt device

• Always replace units that are mechanically damaged
