Great Designs in Steel 2017 Presentations: A Closer Look - 2017 Honda Ridgeline

In case you missed it, Steve Behm from Honda R&D America Inc. presented The 2017 Honda Ridgeline at Great Designs in Steel 2017.

Weight reduction and improved body construction are some key takeaways for the all-new 2017 Ridgeline. Compared to the outgoing model, the new Ridgeline has an aluminum hood, increased usage of high strength steel (HSS) throughout, and composite materials have made an appearance in the B-pillar. A bolt-on outer box side is another improvement, which allows for easier replacement.

The door ring reinforcement is now a hot stamp, tailor-welded part. This tailor-welded door ring is comprised of five different sections of varying MPa’s. In short, sectioning of this part is not allowed. However, Honda does have a removal and installation procedure available.
