Ask I-CAR

Per I-CAR curriculum: “Sectioning the passenger compartment floor is NOT recommended unless there is a procedure from the vehicle maker.

It is important to note that the procedures provided by the vehicle maker are service specifications, not recommendations. For example, think of these procedures as no different than service information for transmission or engine repair, where specific procedures must be followed in the proper order. The decision to section, along with the location and joint type, is designed to ensure the safety of the vehicle in a subsequent collision. Additionally, some vehicle makers specifically state that a part should not be sectioned unless a procedure is available."
