Ask I-CAR

Per I-CAR curriculum: “Door skin bonding is an approved repair method by many vehicle makers and is the most common method of door skin replacement.

If using adhesives to attach the door skin, the outer flange must be hemmed over the inner flange, sandwiching the adhesive between the two panels.

Repairs may require combining welding and bonding. Adhesives may be used along the outside flanges while welds are used in the pinchweld of the window opening or a sectioning joint.

This should not be confused with the process of weld-bonding, which uses adhesive and spot welds in the same joint.”
