Request
What type of sectioning joint does I-CAR recommend?
Response
Per I-CAR curriculum: "Closely follow vehicle-maker guidelines when determining which type of sectioning procedures and joints to use. Be sure to use the recommended joint for the part being sectioned as well as any equipment or electrode wire requirements. Vehicle makers may require higher-strength welding wire when welding to higher-strength materials or welders with a higher output for thicker materials.
Joining procedures are vehicle-maker specific. They may be location specific and may not be interchangeable. For example, do not assume because a butt joint with backing was used on a rear rail that the same joint can be used on a front rail. Never use guidelines from one vehicle maker on another vehicle."
