Great Designs in Steel 2017 Presentations: A Closer Look - 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

In case you missed it, Jeff Tibbenham and James Truskin from FCA/Stellantis presented Advanced High-Strength Steel Technologies in the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica at Great Designs in Steel 2017.

Weight reduction and improved body construction are some key takeaways for the all-new 2017 Pacifica. Compared to the outgoing Chrysler Town & Country, the weight of the Pacifica decreased by 250 pounds. This is largely due to the increased usage of high strength steels throughout the vehicle.

The front door ring reinforcement is now a single tailor-welded part. This door ring is comprised of five different sections of varying MPa’s. Sectioning of this part is not allowed. There are also many graphics that show the strengths of the vehicle structre.
