One-Time-Use Parts And Fasteners: FCA/Stellantis

What is a one-time-use part, and how do you determine if a fastener, clip, or part can be reused? These are questions that we are confronted with in the collision industry quite a lot. The other big question is "Where do I find this information?"

As the Repairability Technical Support (RTS) team researches OEMs for one-time-use fastener/part information, we are putting together a series of articles on how and where to locate this information for specific OEMs. Let’s take a look at FCA/Stellantis.

FCA/Stellantis Service Information manuals typically specify one-time-use parts and fasteners by using the words "install new" or "do not reuse" in the installation procedure. It is important to read each procedure carefully as it can sometimes be hard to see one-time-use instructions.

Per the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL) Service Information (menu on the left) ➤ Electrical ➤ Electrical Control Modules ➤ "Remove and DISCARD the Brake System Control Module (BSCM) bolts … During installation … Install six NEW Brake System Control Module (BSCM) bolts and tighten in sequence, as shown to the correct torque specification."

Per the 2022 RAM 1500 Service Information (menu on the left) ➤ Steering ➤ Column ➤ Wheel, Steering ➤ Removal procedure: "Remove the steering wheel bolt and DISCARD."

Following OEM procedures, including the identification and use of one-time-use fasteners/parts, is important in order to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
