DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

If the malfunction indicator light in the combined instrument panel is illuminated, the diagnostic trouble codes for the management system must first be read out and remedied before battery power is cut off.

1. The ignition should be off for at least five minutes before the battery is disconnected from the car to allow the control modules time to store information
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable
3. Warning! The SRS (supplemental restraint system) is active for a certain time after the power is cut. Therefore wait three minutes before starting work.

Caution! Always disconnect the
negative battery cable before
disconnecting any positive cables.

If the vehicle is equipped with remote heating, the personal code is reset to the factory value (1234) if the battery is disconnected or is discharged

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

After activation of the driver side and/or passenger side airbags (SRS) and/or seat belt tensioners:

• All deployed airbags
• All deployed seat belt tensioners, including end mountings/quickfix
• Replace the seat belt buckles corresponding to activated seat belt tensioners
• Replace the pyrotechnic steering column with a new one, if deployed
• Any damaged restraint system part

After a seat airbag (SIPS) has deployed:
• All deployed airbags
• Upholstery, foam and impact protection on the seats
• Any damaged restraint system part

After activation of the inflatable curtain (IC):
• All deployed inflatable curtains [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• Replace all damaged components by the inflatable curtain, e.g.: the A panels, the B panels, the C panels, the D panels, the headlining
• Any damaged restraint system part

After whiplash system (WHIPS) deployment:
• WHIPS mechanism [ELEMENT, HEADREST ADJ]
• Any damaged restraint system part

Important:
When one or more airbags has deployed, the seat belt tensioners in the rear seat (and in the third row rear seat) are automatically activated. For this reason, these seat belt tensioners, the seat belt buckles and the end mountings must be replaced.
• When one or more airbags have deployed, check the seat belt tensioners in the front seats. See Seat belt tensioner, checking. The activation of the tensioner function
depends on whether the seat belt was in use or not when the airbag deployed.

Warning! After a collision, the seat
belt (inertia) reels and tensioners must
always be replaced. This applies even if no one was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the collision.

Note! If any airbag has deployed,
all seat belts and tensioners
must be replaced.

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Where there is visible damage (deformation, cracks or material that has melted in the heat):

• Steering wheel
• Contact reel [CLOCKSPRING] on the driver's airbag
• Replace the dashboard if the passenger airbag has deployed
• The windshield and its adhesive
• Roof hatch
• All damaged wiring
• The Supplemental Restraint System
Module (SRS), see section "Additional
information"
• WHIPS mechanism [ELEMENT, HEADREST ADJ]
• The loudspeakers in the dashboard
• Panels under the dashboard
• Steering column
• Remove any broken glass from the
windshield from the ventilation ducts
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

After a seat airbag (SIPS) deployed:
• Check that the seat and the backrest
frame on the seat are straight. This may be deformed after deployment of the airbag.
• Replace all damaged cable harnesses
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

After activation of the inflatable curtain (IC):
• Replace the Collision sensors on the B and C-posts
• Replace all damaged mounting elements for the inflatable curtain and the panels.
• Replace all damaged cable harnesses
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

After whiplash system (WHIPS) deployment:
• Check that the seat has no other visible damage
• Any restraint system part or wiring identified by diagnostic check

Additional information:
Important:

Supplemental Restraint System
Module (SRS) must always be replaced:
• If the diagnostic trouble
codes (DTCs) cannot be erased
• If the control module has suffered mechanical damage
• If there is damage to the car floor in the area around the control module. The damage can weaken the mechanical mountings for the control module.

If the car is equipped with Volvo On Call check the following:
• Both the collision cable and
the auxiliary battery must be checked

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-112 must not be erased
during the warranty period. The sensor module should be returned to Volvo in accordance with current procedures

It should also be possible to drive the
car so that the function of the steering is guaranteed

After activation of the inflatable curtain (IC):
• Following a heavy frontal collision, it is possible that the front part of the A-post for the inflatable curtain may be damaged. Check this.

After whiplash system (WHIPS) deployment:
• Note that the WHIPS system is available in two variants
