Hybrid And Electric Vehicle Welding Best Practices
When welding on a hybrid vehicle or electric vehicle, follow the same precautions as when welding on a conventional vehicle. In addition, there are precautions to take with the high-voltage battery. As a best practice, disconnect both the 12 V battery and the high-voltage battery service disconnect. (Note: Always disable the high-voltage battery following the vehicle makers repair information and follow all safety precautions.)
"Hybrid vehicles contain a high-voltage traction battery (HVTB). Before welding near the HVTB, the HVTB must be removed to avoid heat damage."
Refinish Precautions
"If the High Voltage battery is heated to a temperature which exceeds 60°C (140°F), the High Voltage battery life deteriorates and gas leakage occurs which may cause it to become unusable."
"Control the temperature around the High Voltage battery installation location and panel so that the temperature does not exceed 60°C (140°F)."
