PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

• Use PIWIS Tester II 9818 to read out the fault memory
• Steering Wheel
• Steering column
• Steering gear
• After Airbag unit, passenger's side deployment, check dashboard bracket for deformation and replace if necessary
• After Side airbag unit, seat deployment, check seat components
• Head airbag unit [door mounted]: Door trim panel

Because it is difficult to visually determine if one or more belt tensioners has been triggered, check the following points:
– Use PIWIS Tester II 9818 to read out the fault memory.
– Check plug connection on the seat-belt pretensioner for damage.
– Pull out the belt strap as far as possible and check for wear.
– Perform a function test on the automatic belt device.

• The airbag sensors must be replaced if they show signs of mechanical damage and/or if the airbag control unit detects that the airbag sensor is defective (use PIWIS Tester II 9818 to read out the fault memory).

• Replace damaged parts during removal
• Always replace units that are mechanically damaged
