PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Steering column:
The steering column must be replaced by a new or replacement unit if one of the following points applies:
1. Visible or perceptible damage to the steering column.
2. Play in steering shaft line.
3. Fire damage.

• Airbag sensor: the airbag sensors must be replaced if they show signs of mechanical damage and/or if the airbag control unit detects that the airbag sensor is defective
(use PIWIS Tester 3 9900 to read out the fault memory).

Because it is difficult to visually determine if one or more seat-belt pretensioners has been triggered,
check the following points:
– Use PIWIS Tester 3 9900 to read out the fault memory.
– Check plug connection on the seat-belt pretensioner for damage.
– Pull out the belt strap as far as possible and check for wear.
– Perform a function test on the automatic belt device

• Always replace units that are mechanically damaged
