DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

-Checking and installation work must be carried out by professionally trained personnel only.
-Work on airbag system components must only ever be carried out with a disconnected vehicle battery, covered negative terminal and disconnected plug connection of the cable leading to the gas generator. Observe the specified waiting period if merely the vehicle battery is disconnected:

1 min. for vehicles from 9/93 onward

• When carrying out straightening and welding work with an electric welder:
• Disconnect battery
• Cover negative terminal (post)

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

Replace following components after airbag deployment:

Deployed Seat airbag [if deployed]:
• Replace airbag module [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT]
• Replace airbag module and seat cover with upholstery
• Active head restraint. The gas generator can be replaced up to 5 times. (if equipped)

Deployed Driver's airbag [if deployed]:
• Driver's airbag [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL]
• Replace steering wheel

Deployed Front passenger airbag [if deployed]:
• Front passenger airbag [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL]

Deployed Head airbag [if deployed]:
• Head airbag [AIRBAG,ROOF]

Knee airbag [if deployed]:
• [ AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]

Check components for damage, replace if necessary

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Check and/or replace following components after airbag deployment:

• Sensor B-pillar (left/right) [AIRBAG SENSOR,SIDE]
• Sensor front door (left/right)[AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR]
• Sensor seat, Driver-/passenger's side[AIRBAG SENSOR,SEAT TRACK]
• Airbag control unit, vehicle interior [MODULE, AIRBAG CONTROL]
• Sensor, pedestrian protection
• Front sensor (engine compartment)

Cables and connectors:
• Check cables and plugs for damage, replace if necessary

Seat belt system:
•Electrically motorized reel
•Seat belt tensioner
•Seat belt height adjustment
•end fitting pretensioner
•seat belt buckle

Seats:
• Seats
• Airbag module [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT]
• Active head restraint

Driver's airbag:
• Airbag module [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL]
• Steering Wheel
• Steering column (if damaged)

Front passenger airbag:
• Airbag module [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL]
• Dashboard trim panel (must be replaced!)
• Supporting tube (if damaged)

Side airbag, front/rear:
• Airbag module
• Door trim panel
• Door in white
• Seat

Head airbag:
• Airbag module [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• A-pillar trim panel
• Roofliner
• B-pillar trim panel (if damaged)
• C-pillar trim panel (if damaged
• Connection/mount (on side frame)

Knee airbag:
• Airbag module [ AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
• Trim panel (driver's side)
• Lower section of glove box
• Knee protection (driver's and passenger's sides)

• Check components; replace if necessary

Important!
Only repair those cables which show visible signs of damage. In the event of visible damage, make sure there is only one cable repair in effect after the repair work. If no visible damage can be identified, the entire cable must be replaced. When carrying out repairs to the airbag wiring harness, you must use the spare parts offered in the out Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC).
