DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

WARNING:
To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.

1. Turn the ignition switch off.
2. Disconnect both battery cables
3. Wait at least 3 minutes.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

FOR FRONTAL COLLISION When SRS has deployed in a collision:

• If the driver airbag has deployed: REPLACE Install with new fasteners. [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL]
• If the front passenger airbag has deployed: REPLACE Install with new fasteners. [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL]
• If any of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners• have been activated: REPLACE the crash zone sensor and bracket with new fasteners [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT]
• If the Driver seat belt pre-tensioner• has been activated: REPLACE seat belt pre-tensioner assembly with new fasteners
• If the Passenger seat belt pre-tensioner• has been activated: REPLACE seat belt pre-tensioner assembly with new fasteners
• If any of the SRS components have been activated: REPLACE the diagnosis sensor unit. Install with new fasteners. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• If the driver front air bag has deployed: REPLACE the spiral cable [CLOCK SPRING]
• If the passenger front air bag has deployed: REPLACE the instrument panel assembly

FOR SIDE AND ROLLOVER COLLISION When SRS has deployed:

• If the LH side curtain air bag has deployed: REPLACE the LH side curtain air bag module [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• If the RH side curtain air bag has deployed: REPLACE the RH side curtain air bag module [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• If the front side air bag LH has deployed: REPLACE front seatback assembly LH [AIRBAG & SEAT BACK ASSY]
• If the front side air bag RH has deployed: REPLACE front seatback assembly RH [AIRBAG & SEAT BACK ASSY]
• If any of the SRS components have deployed: REPLACE the side airbag (satellite) sensor on the collision side with new fasteners. [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR,SIDE; AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
• If any of the SRS components have deployed: REPLACE the diagnosis sensor unit with new fasteners [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL]
• If the Driver seat belt pre-tensioner• has been activated: REPLACE seat belt pre-tensioner assembly with new fasteners
• If the Passenger seat belt pre-tensioner• has been activated: REPLACE seat belt pre-tensioner assembly with new fasteners

Inspect all seat belt assemblies including retractors and attached hardware after any collision. NISSAN/INFINITI recommends that all seat belt assemblies in use during a collision be replaced unless the collision was minor and the belts show no damage and continue to operate properly. Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury in an accident. Seat belt assemblies not in use during a collision should also be replaced if either damage or improper operation was noted. Seat belt pre-tensioners should be replaced even if the seat belts were not in use during a frontal collision in which the air bags were deployed.

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Perform self-diagnosis using CONSULT or air bag warning lamp.

FOR FRONTAL COLLISION : When SRS has deployed in a collision:
• Steering wheel
• Steering wheel harness, connectors and terminals
• Non-deployed airbags
• Occupant classification system (Passenger seat)
• Harness and connectors
• Replace any SRS components showing visible signs of damage. (dents, cracks and deformation, etc.)

FOR SIDE AND ROLLOVER COLLISION: When SRS has deployed in a collision:
• Check for visible signs of damage (dents, tears, deformation) of the center pillar on the collision side.
• If damaged • Remove the side curtain air bag module (visual inspect)
• Seat (with front side air bag): Visually check.
• Center inner pillar. Check the center inner pillar on the collision side for damage (dents, cracks, deformation, etc.).
• Trim/headliner
• Center inner pillar on the collision side for damage (dents, cracks, deformation), repair if damaged
• Check for visible signs of damage (dents, cracks, deformation, etc.) of the interior trim on the collision side
• Occupant classification system (Passenger seat)
• Replace any SRS components showing visible signs of damage. (dents, cracks and deformation, etc.)

Replace any seat belt assembly (including anchor bolts) if:
• The seat belt is in use at the time of a collision (except for minor collisions and the belts, retractors and buckles show no damage and continue to operate properly).
• The seat belt is damaged in an accident (i.e. torn webbing, bent retractor or guide, etc.).
• The seat belt attaching point is damaged in an accident. Inspect the seat belt attaching area for damage or distortion and repair if necessary before installing a new seat belt assembly.
• Anchor bolts are deformed or worn out.
• The seat belt pre-tensioners must be replaced even if the seat belts were not in use during the collision in which the air bags were deployed.
