DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)
WARNING: To avoid potential physical injury or damage to sensitive electronic circuits and systems, always disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable and the positive cable, then ground the positive cable to discharge the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) capacitor before performing any welding operations on the vehicle.1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable.
2. Allow system capacitor to discharge for two minutes before performing further diagnosis or service.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT
If the Driver airbag is deployed:• Driver airbag [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL]
• Steering Wheel
• Clockspring
• Steering Column Assembly including Intermediate Shaft/Coupler
• Both front seat belt retractor and tensioner assemblies
• All other seat belt retractors and buckles in use
If the Passenger airbag is deployed:
• Passenger airbag [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL]
• Instrument Panel
• Passenger Airbag Wiring Harness or Connector if available (Must use approved wire crimping tool)
If a seat airbag is deployed:
• Seat airbag [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT]
• Seat Back Frame
• Seat Back Foam
• Seat Back Trim Cover
• Seat Airbag Jumper Wiring Harness
• Thermoplastic Chute
• Side impact sensors on the same side of the vehicle as the deployed airbag
• Both front seat belt retractor and tensioner assemblies
• All other seat belt retractors and buckles in use
• Side impact sensors on the same side of the vehicle as the deployed airbag
If a Side curtain airbag has been deployed:
• Curtain Airbag Assembly [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• Headliner
• Upper A, C-Pillar and upper quarter trim on the same side of the vehicle as the deployed airbag
• Side impact sensors on the same side of the vehicle as the deployed airbag
• Both front seat belt retractor and tensioner assemblies
• All other seat belt retractors and buckles in use
• Side impact sensors on the same side of the vehicle as the deployed airbag
If a seat belt tensioner is deployed:
• All seat belt tensioners must be replaced if any airbag in the vehicle has been deployed.
PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED
It is critical that the mounting surfaces and mounting brackets for the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), side impact sensors, and front impact sensors be closely inspected and restored to their original conditions following any vehicle impact damage. [MODULE,AIRBAG CONTROL; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT; AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR;AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]• Active Head Restraint units that are undamaged are designed with the intention of reuse
• Lower anchors and tether for children (LATCH) and upper tether anchors (if equipped)
• Inspect all trim panels
• Occupant Restraint Controller and mounting location
When Driver Airbag has deployed:
• Front Impact Sensors
When Side Curtain Airbag has
deployed:
• Sunroof
• Sunroof Drain Tubes and Hoses
• Seat Belt Tensioners
When the Seat Airbag has deployed:
• Seat Belt Tensioners
All other vehicle components should be closely inspected following any supplemental restraint component deployment, but are to be replaced only as required by the extent of the visible damage incurred.
There are two methods by which an airbag or seat belt tensioner may be connected to the vehicle electrical
system.
1) The first method involves a short pigtail harness and connector insulator that are integral to the airbag or tensioner unit and are replaced as a unit with the service replacement airbag or seat belt tensioner unit.
2) The second method involves a wire harness takeout and connector insulator (squib circuits) that are connected directly to the air bag or tensioner initiator. The heat created by the initiator during an airbag or tensioner deployment will cause collateral damage to a directly connected wire harness take out and connector insulator. Therefore, these direct-connect type take outs and connector insulators must be repaired following an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment.
