DISABLE PROCEDURE AND TIME (Always Check Service Manual)

Before using an electric welder anywhere on the vehicle, disconnect the center airbag sensor assembly connectors. These connectors contain shorting springs. This feature reduces the possibility of the airbag deploying due to current entering the squib wiring.

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF and remove key.
2. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable.
3. Wait at least 90 seconds.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

When any of the airbags have deployed, replace the related airbag sensor and inspect its normal operation:
• When airbags have deployed as the result of a collision, be certain to replace the front airbag sensor when it is in the damaged area (anywhere in need of repair). [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT]
• When airbags have deployed as the result of a collision, be certain to replace all rear airbag sensors in the damaged area (anywhere in need of repair). [AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
• When airbag have deployed as the result of a collision, be certain to replace the rear floor airbag sensor in the damaged area (anywhere in need of repair). [AIRBAG SENSOR,FLOOR]
• If the airbags have deployed, replace the side airbag sensor on the side in which the collision occurred. Replace both if necessary [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR]
• The center airbag sensor should be replaced after any of the airbags has deployed, as it have been subjected to the impact [CNTL UNIT,AIRBAG]

[Deployed Airbags]
• Steering wheel mounted Airbag, [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL]
• Driver side knee airbag assembly [AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
• Front passenger airbag assembly, [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL]
• Front passenger knee airbag assembly, [AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
• Front seat airbag assembly, [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT], Make sure that the seat frame assembly is not deformed. If it is, replace it with a new one.
• Rear seat airbag assembly, [AIRBAG & SEAT ASSY,MIDDLE]
• Curtain shield airbag assembly, [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• Replace the Center airbag sensor assembly, [CNTL UNIT,AIRBAG]

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

Perform a diagnostic system check

• Steering pad, [AIRBAG,STEERING WHEEL]
• Front passenger airbag, [AIRBAG,INSTRUMENT PNL]
• Curtain shield airbag assembly, [AIRBAG,ROOF]
• Front seat airbag, [AIRBAG,FRONT SEAT] Make sure that the seat frame assembly is not deformed. If it is, replace it with a new one
• Driver side knee airbag, [AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
• Front passenger knee airbag, [AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER]
• Rear seat side airbag, [AIRBAG & SEAT ASSY,MIDDLE]
• Rear floor Airbag Sensor [AIRBAG SENSOR,FLOOR]
• Seat belt pretensioner
• Center airbag sensor [CNTL UNIT,AIRBAG]
• Front Airbag Sensor [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRONT]
• Side Airbag Sensor [AIRBAG SENSOR,FRT DOOR]
• Rear Airbag Sensor [AIRBAG SENSOR,QTR PANEL]
• Occupant Classification ECU
• Seat position sensor
• It is necessary to replace any airbag sensors in undamaged areas that have registered a major collision, or which exhibit any external damage
• Perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU

Additionally inspect the:
• Steering wheel
• Instrument panel/ Instrument panel reinforcement
• Front pillar garnish and Headliner

Replace the faulty parts of the seat belt systems (outer belt, inner belt, bolts, nuts, adjustable shoulder anchor, tether anchor hardware and other related parts). When inspecting a vehicle that was in a collision, be sure to check all of the seat belt systems regardless of whether or not the system was activated in the collision. Replace any damaged or malfunctioning systems.
